Building Preservation

In Røros the preservation of buildings has been a central issue right from the 1920s when the first preservation orders were introduced. The work of restoration and maintenance of wooden buildings in the centre of Røros, together with the work on the buildings belonging to the Røros Copper Works, resulted in Røros becoming the country’s foremost restorer of historical buildings.

Røros Museum has a special responsibility for the preservation of buildings in that the Museum receives state funds. The Museum craftsmen pass on the knowledge they gain from working with old and historical buildings in Røros to craftsmen and others from all over the country.
